Token economy.

A reference page for DENA and the treasury it feeds. Contract facts are read from Ethereum mainnet; rules are the ones the servers actually enforce.

1Overview

DeNations runs several free games over one shared world. Anything of value that moves between those games passes through a single hub ledger. DENA is the on-chain token of that world; DP is the hub's internal point; Gold is what each game pays out on its own.

The three are deliberately not interchangeable in both directions. Gold flows inward to DP; DENA never flows at all — it is read from a wallet to decide a multiplier, and is never requested, moved, spent, or held by this site.

2The three layers

LayerWhere it livesShared?Function
Gold (G)Inside each gameNo — per gameThe game's own reward currency
DPHub ledger (server, or device for guests)Yes — all gamesSpends anywhere in the hub
DENAEthereum mainnet, in your walletOn-chainBoost multiplier on DP gains

Gold balances are intentionally not pooled across games. A closed game economy that suddenly shares a wallet with another game breaks both: rewards tuned for one become arbitrage in the other. So each game keeps its own gold, and only the converted value crosses the bridge.

3DENA — what it does

Holding DENA raises the multiplier applied to every DP you gain, in every game. The wallet balance is checked on-chain with a read-only call; no approval, no signature over funds, no transfer.

HoldBoost on every DP gain
1,000+ DENA×1.05
10,000+ DENA×1.15
100,000+ DENA×1.25

The multiplier is applied and verified server-side. A client cannot claim a tier it does not hold.

DENA is not spent to play. Every game is free and fully playable with no wallet at all. The boost is an advantage for holders, not a toll for players.

4DP — the treasury rules

These rates are enforced by the hub server, not by the page you are reading.

RuleValuePurpose
Gold → DP10 G = 1 DPEntry rate
Burn fee10% on conversionRemoves value on every crossing
Daily cap100 DP per account, all games combinedBlocks farming loops
DP → Gold1 DP = 8 GSpread — a round trip loses
Guest mergeOnce per account, up to 200 DPCarries a device balance into an account
SessionWallet signature, 30 daysOne signature, no gas

A worked example: 100 gold converts to 9 DP after the burn fee. Converting those 9 DP back yields 72 gold. The round trip is a loss by design — DP is a place to spend, not a place to trade.

5Nations, lords and tax

In 2021 the world's 195 nations were minted as NFTs, one throne each, on the NATION contract. Owning one makes you that nation's Lord across every DeNations game.

Players move borders; lords hold ground. The two roles are separate on purpose: a game whose outcome could be bought would stop being a game.

6Why it is built this way

Value leaves on every crossing

The 10% burn and the 8-for-1 return spread mean the hub is a net sink. Points enter through play and shrink whenever they move. An economy that only issues eventually drowns in its own supply.

A ceiling on time, not on skill

The 100 DP daily cap is deliberately low enough that grinding stops paying long before it stops being fun. Skill decides ranks; hours do not decide wealth.

The chain is read, never written

DENA and NATION are consulted as evidence — balances and ownership. The hub writes nothing on-chain and custodies nothing. If this site vanished tomorrow, every token and throne would be untouched.

The server is the authority

Rates, caps and boosts live on the server. The browser holds an optimistic copy for responsiveness, and the server's answer always wins.

7Where this can go

Read this section as design direction, not as a promise. Items marked PLANNED are not built yet, have no date, and may change or be dropped. Nothing here is a commitment, a forecast, or a statement about value.

DirectionStatusWhat it would mean
More games on one treasuryLIVE Land Rush and Marble already share DP. Each new game is another entrance to the same economy — the treasury's usefulness grows with the number of doors, not with any one door.
Weekly season archiveLIVE Seasons settle every week and are recorded. A world with a written past can hold rivalries that outlast one match.
On-chain DENA ⇄ DP bridgePLANNED A treasury contract would let the two layers meet directly instead of DENA only granting a multiplier. It is not deployed, and until it is, DENA is strictly read-only to this hub.
Lord toolingPLANNED Deeper controls for nation owners — tax history, territory analytics, and a clearer ledger of what a throne actually earned.
Heritage cards across gamesPLANNED The Heritage collection already plays at Marble's table. The direction is one card set recognised at every table.

The honest summary: the system's ceiling is set by how many games share the treasury and how many people play them. That is a product problem, not a token problem, and it is the one being worked on.

8Commonly misread

AssumptionActually
"DP is a coin."DP is an in-hub utility point. It has no cash value, is not transferable between accounts, and is not redeemable for money or any financial asset.
"I must buy DENA to play."No. Every game is free, wallet optional. DENA only changes a multiplier.
"The site holds my tokens."It cannot. The hub only performs read calls; there is no deposit, no custody, no approval requested.
"Buying a nation wins the game."A throne collects tax. It does not move a single border — that takes playing.
"Losing a season loses my nation."Territory resets each season. Ownership is on-chain and unaffected by play.

9Glossary

Gold (G)A game's internal reward currency. Not shared between games.

LordThe holder of a Nation NFT; sets tax and collects a share of harvests.
SeasonA weekly cycle. Borders reset; the record is archived.
DGDPA season-rank buff. Never alters territory size.

DP is an in-hub utility point: earned by playing, spent on gameplay, capped daily, and not redeemable for cash or any financial asset. DeNations sells nothing, processes no payments, and never takes custody of tokens or NFTs — Nation and Heritage NFTs trade only on open marketplaces, wallet to wallet.
